This recipe is one of the oldest recipe of Karnataka, and we can find this snack popularly made in almost every household. So enjoy!!
Ingredients (serves 2):
Urad dal 1 cup ( soaked in water for atleast 4 hours)
Green chillies 2-3
Pepper corns ½ tsp
Dry coconut pieces 1 tsp
Chopped onions (optional)
Salt
Oil ( for deep fry)
Recipe:
Grind the soaked urad dal with green chillies. Don’t add water.
To this ground paste add chopped coconut pieces, ground pepper salt and mix well.
Keep oil for heating on the stove.
Take some dough, of a golf ball size on your hand, flatten the dough a little and make a hole in the middle. The shape must resemble like a mini doughnut.
When the oil is moderately hot put in the vadas. Fry these doughnut shaped vadas keeping the flame in low to medium.
Fry them till they turn golden brown in color. Fry them in low – medium heat as the side of the vadas must be properly cooked.
Remove them from the oil. Serve these hot crunchy vadas with coconut chutney or hot sambar or both!
Note:
1) Never add any extra water while grinding the mixture. Because if the dough is soggy then itll be difficult to make it into the desired shape and fry them.
2) you can make these vadas inti any desired shape of your choice- small or big, the method is the same.
